We all want our things to be clean as a whistle. This requires a lot of effort and time. Washing and cleaning are always considered difficult tasks. In a world where the trend of patches is growing, people always wish to follow the trend. When it comes to washing clothes with patches on them, the work becomes more difficult.

Say hello to the ultimate guideline on preserving your patched clothes! Whether it’s a pair of jeans adorned with memories, a beloved shirt gifted by someone special, or a jacket with a patch that flashes you back in the world of past events. These tips and tricks keep those patches shining and bright, and the fabric always feels like moonlight. Say goodbye to stains and hello to a wardrobe that glitters like gold and uplifts your personality.

Tips And Tricks For Patch Care Essentials For Longevity

    Examine the patch

Before you start washing, deeply examine the patch, especially embroidered patches. Look for if there are any loose threads, a missing stitch, or anything that can destroy your patch. If you notice something, fix it!

If using a patch attached to adhesive, check the bond between the patch and the fabric. Apply pressure to press down the patch so it is tightly bonded with the fabric. If it is found loose, reapply it with a fabric glue or stitch it. Do check for colourfastness before washing. Consider the instructions directed by the manufacturing company before the first wash.

    Wash the spot

Light-coloured patches quickly get dirty. These patches require extra care compared with others. Instead of washing the complete garment, use a light detergent. Add the powder on the spot, wash it with loose water, and dry it to get better results. This way, your clothes will be protected from extra washing, and you can increase the life of your patch.

    Hand-washing must be a priority

Instead of washing your garment in a washing machine, prefer washing garments with patches on your hands. A hand wash is more light and delicate compared with a machine wash. Use lukewarm water and a delicate washing powder to clean your patch. Immerse the clothing in foamy water and give it a gentle stir. Carefully twirl and knead the fabric, with your main focus on removing dirt. Don’t scrub or rub too hard since this can result in losing and damaging the patch. A patch with embroidery requires extra precautions, so avoid washing it every time. For this, you can use a Velcro embroidered patch before throwing it in the laundry bin, remove the patch and reapply it once the process of washing is completed.

    Adjust washing mode

A washing machine is designed with various modes to wash different sorts of fabrics. Pile up all the clothes of the same fabric together. Choose the mode that works best for the fabric. To wash clothes with patches attached, you can either use a laundry bag to prevent the patch from being extra harshly washed or flip the cloth inside out.

The best precaution is to first wash the spot on the patch using hand wash and later throw it in a washing machine with further precautions.

    Remove stains carefully

Before the garment is thrown into the washing machine, look for the type of stain for the custom sew on patches. A patch can get dirty with stains like sauce, grease, blood, or rust. For instance, use a rust remover made for home laundry. Use cotton with the solution, gently swab directly on the stain, and soak in water. Keep repeating until the stain is removed.

    Dry before trying!

Once you are free from the process of washing, use precautionary measures to dry clothes with patches. The garment should be gently pressed between towels to eliminate excess water. Avoid twisting the fabric if you wish to maintain the patch’s long life. Dry the cloth on a clean towel and wait for it to get reshaped. Avoid trying in the sun since the cloth loses its life early by getting the colour faded, which can even ruin the patch you have used.

    Iron with extra care

Maintaining the patched cloth is trickier than ordinary garments. The patch needs to be ironed after getting dried. This way, the patch will survive for a long time. Remember! Watch out while ironing the patch. As patches are made of delicate fabric, ironing them on high heat can burn them. To avoid getting the patch in tear condition, cover the patch by turning the clothing inside and setting the iron on light heat. Gently press the fabric while moving your iron, but avoid the patch completely. Using this trick, you can get crease-free clothing without damaging the patch.

    Avoid bleaching!

Don’t bleach the patch or garment to remove any sort of stain. Using strong chemicals on your clothing can harm the hidden cotton strands, reducing the charm and glow of the cloth. Use a stain remover if you feel the stain is so harsh that a detergent cannot do its work. Stay alert! Always check for any new strainer on a small patch of cloth before applying it on complete clothing.

    Store with care

Look into all the steps of washing and ironing. Now it is the time to learn the way to store the clothing once you’ve used it. The most important trick is to allow the air to circulate to the place where the clothing is placed. There is an option of either placing the cloth in a plastic bag, turning it inside out to maintain the life of the patch, or hanging it in your closet. However, hanging the cloth with other garments can result in creasing and stretching, so avoid handing it on a wire hanger.

    Conclusion

Updating your closet with patched garments can be fun and creative. The drawback is that they require special care and attention to stay in good shape. If you follow these tips and tricks, you can save your patch for a long time. Once you are proficient in investigating the type of fabric of the patch, you can handle the patch by washing, ironing, and storing it. Remember that while clothing patches can provide a unique touch, it is equally vital to maintain them so they can last for a long and look great. If confident, you are good to go and can buy clothing with patches on them.
